Flame cut or plasma cut edges in heavy
plate parts are no longer corresponding to the demands of state of the
art welding and assembly techniques applied to them. Kuhlmeyer has
responded with a machine, which will economically clean any straight
edge and cut a bevel if so required, eliminating flame cut bevels or
even more expensive – milled edges. The finished surfaces are of high
quality, while the abrasive cost is less than 3 cents per foot
for most applications with bevels up to ½ inch in size. |

The work pieces are clamped pneumatically
along a straight edge. The machine is available in length of 10, 20,
30 and 40 feet and can accommodate single large parts or a series of
small parts, held by the clamps. The minimum part size in the
perpendicular dimension is 1.5”. The KFS can accommodate parts up to
5.0” in height. The adjustment of the clamps is motorized and their
holding power amounts to 9000 Newton.
Easy operation and high production rates at
an unsurpassed surface quality of the finished edge are the key
features for this machine. Any manufacturer working with high volumes
of plate must consider this option.

The customer can either create a bevel or a clean up
the perpendicular surface.
The angle is infinitely adjustable.
A typical federate for a 5/8 inch bevel in CR is 40 ipm. At that rate
the abrasive cost should not exceed 4 cents per foot.

The control is a Siemens S-7 PLC with storage capacity
of up to 100 programs and settings.
You can position all 5 axes by teach mode.
Grinding speed, angle of bevel and depth of cut are some of the
programmable features. |
